Stone floor cleaning: deep clean and seal

The first thing Saul at Cornwell Services did when he arrived at this family home in Walkern, Hertfordshire, was to mask cabinets, appliances and other areas to protect them from any splashes during cleaning. Then the entire floor was thoroughly vacuumed to remove all loose debris.
Next, working in sections, a high alkaline stone floor cleaning agent was applied to the tiled sandstone floor. This works by removing any remnants of previous seals and breaks down all the ingrained dirt and any grease, wax or oil.
Saul then thoroughly scrubbed the kitchen floor with a powerful rotary machine and specialist brushes which agitate the surface to lift out the dirt. He then completed the cleaning process by rinsing the floor and extracting the dirty slurry into the waste tank of the Cornwell Services machine.
Once dried, an impregnating seal was applied to the floor, since natural stone is porous. The seal prevents the sandstone tiles from absorbing oil and water-based splashes such as oil splatters and spilt coffee, that would otherwise sink in and discolour the kitchen floor. The seal ensures any spills can be readily wiped away from the surface of the sandstone tiles, so they stay clean.
